- Kayak Fishing: The handle sits in a kayak rod holder, without interfering with your leg or storage space. The shorter butt also helps you easily fight big catfish from a sitting position.
- Boat Fishing: The handle is long enough for a boat rod holder, adds some length to help with casting, and is best for fighting catfish from a standing position.
- Bank Fishing: The long handle allows you to separate your hands to make long casts
How does it work?
When you get your Golly Whopper Rod, you'll receive the rod, a protective sleeve, a bumper end, and a boat extension handle.
To fish in the Kayak configuration, simply bolt in the bumper end and you'll be ready to go!
To fish in the Boat configuration, remove the bumper end, attach the Boat extension handle, and then the bumper end.
A Bank extension handle is available for purchase separately. To fish in the Bank configuration, remove the Boat extension and bumper end, attach the Bank extension handle, and then the bumper end.

The Lifetime Warranty requires product registration within 30 days of purchase. Then if you encounter any bad luck, just mail it back and we'll replace it for just 50% of MSRP. Deal?
We also warranty our rods against manufacturer defects for 6 months after purchase. This warranty applies to any purchase from an approved distributor and requires proof of purchase. Registration required for this warranty, too.

How do I change the lengths?
The Golly Whopper is built with a reinforced metal union in the butt. This allows for two different extension handles to be screwed on.
To change the handle, simply bolt on the extension piece that you want, or use it without an extension for the best kayak rod you've ever had!
NOTE: We don't advise attaching more than one extension piece at a time.
What is the total rod length in each configuration?
- Kayak Configuration (Rod + Rubber Bumper) = 7'
- Boat Configuration (Rod + Boat Extension + Rubber Bumper) = 7' 6"
- Bank Casting Configuration (Rod + Bank Extension + Rubber Bumper) = 8'
Aren't kayak rods just regular rods with 12" cut off them?
That's often what happens with new fad companies try to get money from kayak anglers. They do this when they don't understand kayak fishing, and probably haven't even been in a kayak themselves. That's not us.
The Golly Whopper was designed in partnership with anglers that have fished thousands and thousands of hours on kayaks, boats, and banks. It's specifically designed to handle each task well.
Will the Golly Whopper stand up to saltwater?
The metal union is an aluminum alloy which is anti-rust, but not 100% anti-corrosion against saltwater. If you use it in saltwater, we'd recommend applying a thin layer of grease (like reel grease) to the threads before screwing the extension on, and then rinsing after it's been in salt water.

I give Catfish Sumo 6 stars!!! I think the quality of this rod is unbelievable. I love the look, the reel seat, the finish, and can't wait to sling baits this weekend. Customer support is very amazing and accountable too. I showed them that my boat and bank extension handles came scuffed and after evaluating the blemishes, Catfish Sumo allowed me to exchange them for unblemished ones. This was so great for me, and such a relief, because it was the first time I bought a really nice rod! The reason I give them six out of five stars is this product is amazing and their customer service is fantastic! What a great company.

I'm old school and just really never liked the feel of the newer big named catfish rods on the market. I'm also not one to give a damn about following the crowd because of some fancy new color scheme. I don't care about sponsors or fitting in with the crowd. I been known to leave all the new gear in the garage and dust off some old school rods and reels when i get in a slump. Catfish Sumo did a Bogo deal on these and the price was perfect to give two of them a try. Right from the tube I was hooked. The feel was perfect for me. I've caught my share of big fish over the years and held the big fish in Online Catfishing National tournament for over a year at 47.25 inches and roughly 70 plus pounds. I caught that fish on an old school 8' eagle claw rod with a cork handle and was one of my favorite rods for 20 years. The newer rods on the market are pretty, glow in the dark and catch fish but they always felt odd in my hand when battling a tank. They all are good rods but the heavy feel of them just left me wanting to find something else. I do like the shorty rods made for kayaks that came out a couple years ago and thought it was as good as it was going to get. The Golly Whopper is better. Being a kayak guy, I believe you need a rod that is easy to handle in a smaller vessel. A rod than can fish different methods, shorter to land a big fish easier and just enough backbone to set a circle hook. These rods were specifically designed for the kayak fisherman by Justin and Daniel. Justin and I have very similar style when it comes to catching big fish in a kayak. He is just way better at it than most of us. I don't really like to run planer boards because when you get hung up the time spent setting them all back up is time your baits are no longer in the water and I think they like to get hung up more than just dragging without a board. I'd rather take my chances with 4 rods that I can handle and drift, drag or suspend those over specific areas. It might not be the best way to win a one-day tournament, but it is a very good way to catch your share of trophy fish in some of the most devastated waters in the country. These rods can do it all and that is what makes them better for a kayak angler. A good rod you can handle will make all the difference keeping you on the water and most importantly your baits in the water longer. That my friends is how you catch trophy fish month after month and year after year even when you are fishing some of the most commercially devastated water in the country.

Finally got a chance to get out on the water to try out my new Golly Whopper Rods and they were GREAT! I have blue lights on the exterior side of my kayak and they lit the poles up perfectly. love the strength and flexibility of them.
