If you’re a dedicated catfish angler, you know the importance of the right tools to up your game. Ordinary floats just don’t cut it for catfish, and that’s why we’re excited to introduce the Knotless™ Inline Rattling Line Float, designed from the ground up to target catfish with precision and efficiency.
🤔 A Short History of Rattles in Catfishing
Our grandpas used to think catfish were just bottom-feeding scum-suckers, rooting around for stinky stuff in the mud. That's why they started adding a peg float to their rig--to hold their bait up off the bottom making it easier for catfish to find. And that made partial sense.
But the number of bass and crappie anglers accidentally catching feisty catfish on artificial lures couldn't be denied--and catfish anglers started to realize how predatory catfish actually are. Catfish use more than their sense of smell to chase down live bait.
So one day someone said, "What if I take the hooks off my bass lure, and use THAT for a line float? It even has some little beads inside that make sound."
And soon it caught on.
But there's some major problems with using bass lures for your line floats:
❌ Bass lures are made to float on top of the water, not handle the high pressure of deeper water. This is why so many so-called "catfish rattles" leak.
❌ Bass lures are made to float a couple small hooks, not chunks of bait! Try as they might, they simply don't have enough buoyancy for the bait us catfish anglers use.
❌ Bass lures are made to tie to your line on the front, and only face the pressure of a few pounds of fish. (Let's face it, even a state record bass isn't pulling as hard as a mid-sized catfish). Even many existing "catfish rattles" are made from weak plastic that easily pulls apart. Sad.
❌ So what happens when you try to use a bass lure posing as a "catfish rattle"? There's never been a good way to attach them! If you loop your line through the metal guides, you create pinch points that either break your line, or torque the lure and crack it. Or if you tie to the front and back, you've added extra weak points and also risk pulling the guides out of the thin plastic.
Catfish Sumo's Rattle Evolution:
✅ The first rattle we offered was our original Rattling Line Float. We started by making the existing lure concept better with sturdier plastic, a better seal, more buoyancy, and tougher paint.
✅ Next we created our Heart Pounder™ Rattles: They're louder, have life-like paint, and our Battle-Proof™ connector through the entire lure body to prevent breaks and pull-outs.
✅ And now, we're introducing: The Catfish Sumo Knotless™ Inline Rattling Line Float for Catfish Rigs.
The Knotless™ Inline Rattling Line Float takes these needs into account, giving catfish anglers a purpose-built rattle float that checks all the boxes for serious catfishing.
Here's Five Ways the Knotless™ Inline Rattling Line Float Outperforms the Competition:
-
A True Inline Rattle: Line passes directly through the rattle, without any knots or pinch points, so you won't risk losing that big fish.
-
Hyper-Responsive Sound: The Knotless™ Float features finely tuned internal rattles that respond to even the smallest movements underwater, producing sounds that attract catfish in any water conditions. Whether you’re fishing in murky rivers or clear lakes, this float maximizes the sound profile, increasing your chances of a strike.
-
Lifelike Presentation: Carefully painted and balanced to stay right-side-up, mimicking a real baitfish to spark predatory instincts in catfish—even when they’re not actively feeding.
-
Engineered for Heavier Bait: With a special trapped air chamber and optimized rattles, the Knotless™ Float provides unmatched buoyancy for larger chunks of bait. We’ve stripped away unnecessary hardware to keep your rig streamlined and ensure even the biggest bait stays afloat, right where you want it.
-
Pressure-Tested Strength: Unlike wanna-be bass lures, the Knotless™ Float is built to withstand extremely deep water pressure, allowing you to fish at greater depths without risking water intrusion. With this added durability, you can explore more waters, fish more places, and stop replacing broken or waterlogged gear.
Now Catfish Anglers Might Be Wondering...
Won’t it slide around on my leader?
Yes, the float is designed to balance itself and provide optimal lift to your bait, helping you present it in the optimal strike zone.
What if I want it to stay in place?
It’s easy to keep the float fixed in place if that's what you want—just use a simple bobber stopper or loop your line through the line sleeve. With a wider radius, the Knotless™ Float won’t pinch your line like a wire design, so you can set up your rig exactly how you want it.
I'm still not sold on rattles. Don't they spook catfish?
There's been a ton of split-tests done on rattles vs no-rattles. The summary is consistent: On days when fish are biting, they might not make a ton of difference. But on slow days, you'll be glad you added them!
